Northcote Town Hall is playing host to a carnival of puppetry. There's a show for every age and taste. But for sheer hilarity you can't go past the adults-only puppet rock opera, Tyrannosaurus Sex. Philip Millar and Derek Rowe have taken puppetry of the penis to heart, creating a hugely entertaining musical romp about -- you guessed it -- dick size. The show follows the adventures of Bob, a modestly proportioned but incredibly limber penis. Bob's self-esteem issues lead him to flirt with some dodgy size-enhancement solutions. At length he falls into the hands of Mr Bumshark, whose experiments with testosterone and dinosaur DNA produce a truly monstrous member. Tyrannosaurus Sex features a range of puppets, from full body to latex marionettes. There's a sausage cock-rock band, Henson-style whoppers, and an amusingly realistic star. They're brilliantly designed, and Millar manipulates them with comic animation. Complementing the puppets are a number of cracking original songs, with strong melodies and diabolically clever lyrics, all sung with gusto by Rowe. It's a hoot.

The strength of performers Philip Millar, Derek Rowe and Heath McIvor keeps this show well animated. A non-stop rock musical soundtrack performed live allows puppets and performers to co-exist naturally, and keeps the show moving at an engaging pace.
